Musical Background
I am an organist with international recital experience and a passionate interest in choral music. Broadcasting engagements with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival have catalysed my enthusiasm for the orchestral and chamber repertoire, respectively.
I was fortunate to be schooled at Bishops (Diocesan College) in Rondebosch, Cape Town, where I studied the piano with Debby van Zyl and the organ with Mark Mitchell. An opportunity to attend the Oundle for Organists Summer School in 2005 cemented my interest in the king of instruments. In 2006, as Claude Brown Organ Scholar at Bishops, I attended masterclasses in the UK with David Sanger, Anne Marsden Thomas and Catherine Ennis and gave a recital in the Netherlands. The following year, I was awarded the Cape Organ Guild Barrow-Dowling Scholarship and passed my licentiate recital diploma (LTCL) with distinction.
For three years (2010-2012), while a student at the University of Cape Town, I trained and conducted the thirty-person UCT Choir. After that time, I spent two-and-a-half happy years in the St George’s Singers under Dr Barry Smith until his retirement in 2015. With his encouragement, I founded my own choral group, VOX Cape Town, which I continue to direct today.
